In October 2017, twenty seven children graduated high school in Arusha, Tanzania. The all-day graduation ceremonies were a huge moment for the children and their families. The events featured speeches, dances and an after-party.
Shika is immensely proud of the students. It has taken a lot of hard work and commitment from them to get them where they are today. Many have had to overcome many personal obstacles at home which also makes their achievement even more remarkable. A big thank you to all the sponsors who have helped support our students over the years. Just 25% of children in Tanzania get the chance to complete secondary school, this number is even less for children coming from poorer families, so your sponsorship has truly helped make a difference in their lives. We salute you!
All the students are currently taking their O-Level exams, for which they’ll receive their results in February which will determine if they will continue to study their A-levels (senior high school), take vocational training or seek employment. Whichever route the students chooses to take, Shika will continue to support them. All the students will also be enrolled in an IT programme, which will help provide them with the vital skills needed to support the next steps in their education and help them secure employment in the future.
