Values and Objectives
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
Nelson Mandela
Shika is a UK registered charity aiming to create opportunities for the poorest people in Tanzania through access to education and trade.
We believe that everyone has the right to a decent level of education, regardless of income or background. Education is an important tool for empowerment yet, to children from the poorest and most vulnerable backgrounds, receiving a quality education is a huge challenge.
Our Vision: An equal world where everyone has access to a quality education
Our Mission: To bring positive change to the poorest people in Tanzania by providing access to education
Our Philosophy: To work together with skilled local organizations, community leaders and local people to develop appropriate and sustainable solutions to poverty.
Shika’s Core Values
Our own values are at the heart of all our activities. These guiding principles underpin and inform every thing we do.
1) Partnership & Respect
By listening carefully to the issues affecting the local communities and not being afraid of cultural differences, we can work together to develop ideas and solutions.
2) Empowerment
Using our resources to help achieve agreed solutions, the community are empowered to know that their ideas have value and can be implemented. They can feel empowered to be part of the solution, not always the problem.
3) Transparency throughout
We want to cultivate trust with everyone we work with from our beneficiaries to our donors. To do this we encourage an open environment where information is shared and used freely.
