The Shika Sponsorship Programme

The Shika educational sponsorship programme assists almost 100 children to receive a quality education support package to ensure they make the most of their opportunities.  We aim to help each child work their own way out of poverty through a quality education, complimented with counselling support and after school activities.

“When I think of the money I fritter away, the small cost of sending a child to school is where my money is most well spent and rewarding. I have visited Shika in Tanzania and seen first hand the difference sponsorship can make. The children are absolutely delightful, keen to learn and so grateful for the opportunity to study, play and build a future for themselves” Harriet Williams, Events Organiser, London

Maasai Child Sponsorship

Maasai children (especially girls) are among the most marginalized in Tanzania.  There is a severe lack of basic amenities in Maasai areas, so quality educational opportunities (especially secondary schools) are few and far between.  Shika provides educational sponsorships to assist vulnerable Maasai children to receive highly prized secondary school places.

What do we ask of our sponsors?

Shika encourages people from both the UK and farther afield to the international community, including school groups and families to sponsor, striking up friendships that span the globe. Sponsors receive letters, a photo and school reports from their sponsored child, as well as the opportunity to learn about Tanzania’s rich and varied culture.  All our sponsors are welcome to visit our after school support programme when visiting Tanzania.  If you are planning a trip, email our Programme Manager to arrange a suitable day to visit – tzmanager@shika.org.uk

We also encourage all sponsors to commit, where possible, to support their sponsor child throughout the entirety of their primary education.  We value your commitment and the children are reliant on it.
